San Diego County Announces Over $800,000 in Unclaimed Funds Available
Deadline Approaches for Taxpayers to Claim Unclaimed Money Before Funds Are Transferred
According to FOX5 KUSI NEWS, San Diego County officials are notifying local taxpayers about more than $800,000 in unclaimed funds that are waiting to be claimed. According to Dan McAllister, the County Treasurer-Tax Collector there is a total of $867,171 in unclaimed money. This includes funds from checks or warrants that could not be delivered overpaid taxes and payments for County services. Residents who think they might be owed money are encouraged to check the list on the website sdttc.com to see if they can claim any of these funds.
State law in California requires that unclaimed money and property tax refunds if not claimed within specific timeframes be transferred to the county’s general fund. Specifically unclaimed funds must be claimed within three years and property tax refunds within four years. To ensure that taxpayers do not lose their refunds they must file their claims before September 22. Claims can be sent by email to [email protected] or by calling 1-877-829-4732 for more information and assistance.

For those who prefer to file claims in person or need additional help the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s branch offices are open at several locations. They are located at 590 Third Ave. in Chula Vista 10144 Mission Gorge Road in Santee and 141 East Carmel St. in San Marcos. Residents are advised to act quickly to avoid losing their rightful funds.
