$195,000 Penalty: Titan Gas Settles with Pennsylvania for Violating Do-Not-Call List

Titan Gas to Pay $195,000 and Cease Calls to Pennsylvania’s Do-Not-Call List

Settlement Sends Clear Warning to Telemarketers

In a recent announcement, Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry revealed a settlement with Titan Gas LLC a Texas-based company accused of breaking state telemarketing rules. According to the posted article in Yahoo, the company will pay $195,000 and stop calling Americans on the state’s Do-Not-Call list. The problem began with Titan Gas violating a 2019 agreement that barred them from contacting Pennsylvanians who had signed up to avoid such calls. Despite this agreement the company continued to make 2.7 million telemarketing calls to residents on the list.

Attorney General Henry explained that the company’s actions included deceptive practices that tricked consumers into agreeing to receive calls. The settlement requires Titan Gas to pay $160,000 in civil penalties and cover $35,000 in additional costs. Furthermore, Titan Gas must submit a written report detailing how they will follow the terms of the previous settlement and comply with consumer protection laws. Henry emphasized that the settlement sends a strong message to telemarketers. “This company knew better than to telemarket to consumers who are on the ‘Do-Not-Call list’ and my office will not tolerate disregard of Pennsylvanians who explicitly request privacy” she said. “This settlement holds Titan accountable for their violations and puts other telemarketers on notice.” Consumers who have complained about Titan Gas’s deceptive practices will benefit directly from the settlement. They will receive a share of the civil penalties paid by the company.

Furthermore, it is advised that Pennsylvanians who wish to prevent unsolicited calls register their phone numbers with the Attorney General’s website’s Do-Not-Call List maintained by the Bureau of Consumer Protection. To better protect themselves from unsolicited telemarketing individuals can register on the National Do-Not-Call Registry maintained by the Federal Trade Commission. Americans should always exercise caution and make sure they understand exactly what they are agreeing to when they provide personal information online.
