New York State to Send Additional Child Tax Credit Checks to Low-Income Families by End of August

According to the report of Marca, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that low-income parents eligible for the state’s child tax credit program will receive additional checks by the end of August. These payments are designed to support families already receiving the Empire State child credit without requiring any extra paperwork. The additional checks will provide up to $330 per child, depending on the parents’ income. Families earning less than $10,000 will receive an amount equal to their child tax credit while those with higher incomes will get at least 25% of their credit amount.

This initiative, funded by $350 million from the state budget aims to alleviate financial stress for New York families. State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins emphasized the importance of this support highlighting the government’s role in making it easier to raise a family. Governor Hochul noted the simplicity of the program, stating, “We already know what peoples’ income is so we know their eligibility.”

Maximize Your Child Benefits

Eligibility for the Empire State child credit requires full-time residency in New York or being married to a resident along with meeting specific income thresholds. Even families who did not receive the federal child tax credit may still qualify for the state credit if their income falls within the limits: $110,000 or less for married couples filing jointly, $75,000 or less for single parents, and $55,000 or less for those married filing separately. This extra payment plan is only for this year with future payments depending on state budget approval for next year.
