The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education blames a new Child Care Data System for the payment delays. This has left many providers including Luong Nichols struggling financially and considering closing their centers.

Luong Nichols is committed to her daycare which serves children with disabilities and those in foster care. Over 1,800 providers statewide are affected waiting for payments already due.

State Sen. Lauren Arthur criticizes the state’s handling of the crisis calling it unacceptable. Providers are not only facing financial strain but also operational challenges and unsure about the future.

Education officials promise to resolve payment delays by the end of July, but many providers remain skeptical. Tina Mosley in St. Louis stopped accepting subsidy children to protect her business and a decision others in her community have also made, according to the report of The 74 Million.
