Mark H. Metcalf Highlights Record Returns to Kentucky Taxpayers

According to FOX56, in a remarkable achievement for Kentucky taxpayers State Treasurer Mark H. Metcalf’s administration has announced a record return of over $13 million in unclaimed property and expired checks during the first half of 2024. Metcalf reported that his office successfully facilitated the return of $12,488,310.05 through the Division of Unclaimed Property. This initiative covered a wide range of financial assets that had been dormant or forgotten by their rightful owners including bank accounts insurance policies and contents from safe deposit boxes. These assets were transferred to the Treasury after a period of inactivity ensuring they could be safeguarded and eventually reunited with their rightful owners.

Furthermore Metcalf’s proactive measures resulted in the retrieval of an additional $926,960.61 from expired checks issued by the Commonwealth but never cashed by residents and businesses. This amount included unclaimed income tax refunds highlighting the Treasurer’s commitment to meticulous oversight and the efficient redistribution of financial resources back to Kentucky taxpayers. Metcalf expressed pride in his office’s accomplishments underscoring their dedication to serving the people of the Commonwealth by facilitating these returns and maintaining transparency through accessible online databases where individuals can check for unclaimed funds.
