Ohio Department of Development and Community Action Commission Offers Relief from Summer Heat

The Ohio Department of Development and Community Action Commission offers help to low-income families through the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program. From now until September 30th, eligible Ohioans can get assistance with electric bills, AC or fan purchases, or repairs.

Eligibility

To qualify for the Summer Crisis Program, households must meet income guidelines. For 1-7 people and income must be 175% or less of the federal poverty level. For 8+ people, it must be 60% or less of the state median income. Elderly households (60+) with medical cooling needs may also qualify.

Benefits and Application

The Summer Crisis Program has helped over 44,000 households in 2023. Eligible households can get help with electric bills, repairs, or new air conditioners/fans. Apply by calling 419-901-9539 or visiting energyhelp.ohio.gov., according to the report of Mansfield News Journal.
