According to TheSuns, Two Muslim women, Jamilla Clark and others, won a big victory in their lawsuit against the New York Police Department (NYPD). They said that the police were wrong to make them take off their hijabs during mug shot photos. The hijab is an important part of their daily life and religion. The police apologized and agreed to pay each person who was affected at least $7,824.

The lawsuit was started in 2018 and covers any times the police made Americans take off their hijabs from 2014 to 2021. Anyone who was arrested by the NYPD during that time can file a claim to get paid. The deadline to file a claim is September 26, 2024. If you are part of the group but don’t want to get paid, you can say no by the deadline.
