According to JustTheNews, The Washington State Auditor’s Office recently looked at how 11 state agencies spent federal money meant to help with the COVID-19 pandemic. They found many problems, including $1.17 billion in spending that might not have followed the rules. This is a big increase from last year’s report, which found $1.2 billion in questioned costs.

One of the agencies that had big problems is the Department of Children, Youth & Families. They didn’t keep good records of the money they spent on childcare, so auditors couldn’t figure out if it was being used correctly. This isn’t the first time this agency has had trouble with its finances.
