Walgreens is paying over $900 compensation to people who didn’t get hired because of background checks while also facing problems like closing stores just like Walmart which is closing health centers and stopping Virtual Care.
Offering $900 Compensation to Applicants Denied Jobs
According to the published article in The US Sun, Walgreens is giving over $900 compensation to people who were not hired because of background check findings. The $900 compensation, applied to those who applied for jobs between March 30, 2020, and May 17, 2022, happened because Walgreens allegedly didn’t follow the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) rules. Even though Walgreens says it did nothing wrong it agreed to pay affected people $100 initially and possibly more if they argue against the background check results.
Those affected have until May 23, 2024, to ask for $900 compensation. Besides this issue, Walgreens faced challenges closing 150 stores in 2023. This led to over 500 job losses and a 10% staff cut. Walgreens blamed economic problems and a slow start to the cough, cold, and flu season. There are also worries about the future with reports saying up to 3,000 stores could close soon.
