Mayor Seeks Funding for Migrant Care
Concerns Over Potential Influx During Convention
According to ABC 7 Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago wants the City Council to agree to give an extra $70 million to aid migrant care who come to the city. Even though fewer migrants are coming now the mayor is having meetings with city leaders to talk about this money. Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa says they need the money because more migrants might come during the Democratic National Convention in August. He worries Republicans might send more buses to embarrass President Biden and Chicago.

Debate Over Migrant Care Funding Allocation
The money would come from some federal money left over and the city’s general fund. It’s meant to aid migrant care with their basic needs without taking money from other important things. But some Americans even the mayor’s friends, don’t like this migrant care idea. They’re worried about how the money will be used and if it’s really needed. The mayor’s team is talking to the City Council to try to get enough support to vote on this next Wednesday. They want to make sure migrants get help while dealing with all the complicated politics and money issues.
