Graphic Packaging International Agrees to $1 Million Settlement Eligible Employees to Benefit
According to the report of The US Sun, Graphic Packaging International a big company that makes food packages is paying almost $1 million to settle a lawsuit. The lawsuit says they broke a law in Illinois about how they use employee hand scans. They did not ask employees properly before using these scans and did have rules for keeping the data safe. Even though Graphic Packaging International says they did do anything wrong they agreed to give about $1,000 to eligible employees who used certain hand scanners at their Illinois facility between June 29, 2016 and September 1, 2021.

Workers who are eligible can get the money without filling out any forms. They just need to update their address on a website. The deadline say you do not want to be part of this settlement in April 22, 2024 and there will be a final decision on June 11, 2024. Any leftover money from the settlement will be given out in a second round. This situation shows why its important for companies to follow rules about collecting and keeping private information like biometric data. If they do not they can get in trouble like Graphic Packaging International did.
