Sacramento County’s Pilot Program

Sacramento County launched the Family First Sacramento Pilot Program to help low-income Native American and African American families by providing $725 monthly payments for a year.

The pilot program aims to combat income disparities and improve mental health. Residents in specific zip codes with children under five can qualify through a lottery system.

The pilot program is funded by Sacramento County and aims to help families pay bills on time and reduce the need for child welfare services.

According to a published article by SmartNews, similar pilot programs in other areas have been successful in reducing crime and homelessness. More information about the said pilot program is available on the United Way California Capital Region website.

Additionally, a pilot program in Harris County, Texas funded by an American Rescue Plan Act grant will provide $500 monthly payments to 1,928 households for 18 months to help with rising living costs. Payments will also be awarded through a lottery system.
