Vee Pak Settlement Money

Vee Pak and hiring agencies settle a class action lawsuit for alleged discrimination against African American workers.

Claimants of the Vee Pak settlement money can get up to $5,000 by filing a claim before March 22nd if they were denied work at Vee Pak between January 1, 2011, and January 16, 2018.

African American applicants denied work at Vee Pak during this period must provide social security numbers as evidence.

Business Operations Tax Measure

In a published article by capradio.org, the Sacramento City Council committee is considering putting a business operations tax measure on the March 2024 ballot to update the tax for the first time since 1991.

The proposed measure could increase city revenues by about $6.6 million a year by raising the maximum annual tax payment from $5,000 to $150,000.

The city’s current tax cap is lower than that of seven other California cities, and financial projections show a potential deficit in the city’s budget in the next few years due to rising expenses.

Council members believe it is necessary to consider and move forward with this tax update to address the budget challenges ahead.
