Investigation Unveils Alleged SNAP Benefit Fraud Scheme at Haitian Caribbean Mini Mart

In Franklin County, many people are accused of doing something wrong with their SNAP benefits which help families buy food, according AOL published article. They went to a small store called the Haitian Caribbean Mini Mart and exchanged their benefits for cash instead of buying food. The store owners, Marie Registe and Paul Duckens, were accused of being part of this illegal activity which took a lot of taxpayer money.

The investigation started because some cards that people use to get their SNAP benefits were used in the mini-mart for things that weren’t allowed. The investigators noticed that the store was doing a lot of transactions with these cards even though it was a small store with not much stuff to buy. They watched the store with cameras and saw people doing strange things with their SNAP cards and even saw the owners giving them cash.
