Clean Energy Revolution Gains Momentum: IRS Portal and Inflation Reduction Act Boost Tax Incentives
Transformative Impact on Clean Energy: Treasury Deputy Wally Adeyemo on New Tax Credit Opportunities and ECO Portal
The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have reached a significant milestone in promoting clean energy initiatives across the country with over 45,500 clean energy projects registering for new tax credit options through the IRS Energy Credits Online (ECO) portal and the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act has gained momentum. This legislation introduces innovative credit delivery mechanisms like elective pay and transferability expanding access to clean energy tax incentives to a wider range of entities including state, local and Tribal governments as well as non profit organizations.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo emphasized the transformative impact of these changes foreseeing a surge in the development of clean power projects. By easing access to tax incentives for clean energy initiatives, the Act not only aligns with the nation’s climate goals but also bolsters the growth of the clean energy economy. The creation of the ECO portal by the IRS further streamlines the process allowing entities to register their projects efficiently and obtain necessary registration numbers for claiming credits on their tax returns thereby ensuring secure access to financial benefits and preventing fraud.
