Budget For The US Capitol Police

President Joe Biden’s budget request includes a significant funding increase for the US Capitol Police in the coming fiscal year. The US Capitol Police Department would receive $901 million.

This amount given to the US Capitol Police is a 22% increase over current funding, to address low staffing levels and increased threats against members and staff. The budget for the US Capitol Police includes funding for salaries, benefits, overtime, and technology upgrades to enhance security measures.

According to a published article by SmartNews, aside from the US Capitol Police, other Legislative Branch agencies, such as the Government Accountability Office and Congressional Budget Office, would also see funding increases.

The proposal involving the US Capitol Police’s budget is part of Biden’s larger $7.3 trillion request, which includes investments in healthcare, housing, child care, and college aid.

Funding Proposal By The White House

In a published article by CTV News, the White House released a proposal to provide funding for Israel, Ukraine, domestic defense manufacturing, humanitarian assistance, and managing migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border, totaling over $105 billion.

President Biden is urging Congress to act quickly but faces complications in the divided House and Senate. The majority of the funding would go to support Ukraine and Israel. Some Republicans are hesitant about linking funding for both countries.

The proposal also includes measures for immigration enforcement, which could be a sticking point for some Republicans. Biden’s strategy to combine different issues in hopes of passing the legislation could also lead to challenges.
