New Hampshire’s Free Job Training Initiative for SNAP Recipients
New Hampshire started a new program to help people who get SNAP benefits find better jobs. They teamed up with Manchester Community College and the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation to offer free job training. This means that people who get SNAP benefits can take classes at the college without paying tuition. They also get help from career counselors who can teach them how to write resumes and find job opportunities.

Kim Runion who works at the Department of Health and Human Services explained that the main goal of the program is to help people start their careers especially in fields like healthcare. She shared her own story to show that people can realize their potential and get help to succeed. The program gets some money from the government and also from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. It helps people get valuable qualifications gets more students to the college, helps the foundation’s mission, and provides more qualified workers for different jobs. Since the program started 15 people finished their job training, and many are interested in healthcare jobs. More courses will start in April focusing on jobs like phlebotomists, pharmacy technicians, and medical assistants. This program is a good example for other places to help low-income people find better jobs. It shows how government money can help people move up in their careers.
