Energy Bill Gains Approval from Both State Legislative Bodies

In Washington state, Alex Ybarra who works in the government wanted to make it easier for regular people to use more clean energy. He made a rule called House Bill 1948. Ybarra’s rule says that if someone is already using all clean energy the company doesn’t have to find even more. This rule passed with everyone agreeing and now it’s waiting for the governor to say if it’s okay.

This new rule follows the old Energy Independence Act which said companies must get 15% of their electricity from clean sources. Even if people chose 100% clean energy for themselves, the companies still had to get extra clean energy. Ybarra’s rule tries to fix this making it simpler for companies and letting people who want all clean energy have it without causing extra problems. People hope this will help Washington use more clean energy and take better care of the environment.
