Navigating Tax Reform of Governor Greg Gianforte
Governor Greg Gianforte set up a group to help with high property taxes in Montana according to Bozeman Daily Chronicle. He wants to find ways to lower taxes for homeowners but doesn’t want to use a sales tax. At their first meeting, they talked about problems like differentiating between homes and short-term rentals. Some members brought up the idea of a sales tax but it’s not popular and has limits set by the constitution. The group will keep discussing how to lower taxes without causing problems for other parts of the economy. They’ll split into smaller groups to focus on specific issues and give a report to the governor by August 15th.
