The average wait time when contacting the IRS is four minutes, with Mondays and Tuesdays having the longest waits. Before contacting the IRS, check online resources for common issues. To reach a person, call 1-800-829-1040, navigate through the menu, and press 2, 1, 3, 2, and 4 to reach an agent.
