Vermont’s AARP Foundation is once again offering its free Tax-Aide program, providing valuable assistance to individuals in navigating the complexities of tax season. This program, open to all, particularly targets those over 55 years of age and low-to-moderate income households. Notably, membership in AARP is not a prerequisite for accessing this invaluable service, intended to ease the process of securing tax refunds for all Vermonters.
Laura McDonough, AARP Vermont’s Communications Director, emphasized the significance of the Tax-Aide program, stating that tax complexity often results in overpayment or financial barriers preventing individuals from filing their taxes. McDonough highlighted the program’s impact, noting that even a modest refund can make a substantial difference in individuals’ lives. This commitment to accessibility and support aligns with the foundation’s mission to empower Vermonters financially.

Appointments for in-person or virtual tax assistance from certified IRS volunteers can be scheduled from now through April 15. With 38 in-person sites spread across Vermont, individuals can seamlessly access the program’s support. In the previous year, the Tax-Aide program aided 8,400 Vermont residents, underscoring its enduring relevance and impact.
