Families in the ten highest-poverty zip codes can receive $500 a month for 18 months, offering vital financial support for rent, groceries, and bills. However, with only about 2,000 spots available, the selection process is highly competitive.

Demand Surges for Harris County Guaranteed Income Program

Launched to alleviate financial burdens, Harris County Guaranteed Income Program has seen an unprecedented level of interest, signaling the acute need for economic relief in the community. The $20.5 million pilot program aims to assist families residing in high-poverty areas, but the surge in applications underscores the widespread financial challenges faced by many.

To qualify, applicants must live in specific zip codes and fall 200% below the federal poverty line. Despite its positive impact, the program faces scrutiny from some state lawmakers, prompting a review by the attorney general.

The application window closes on Friday night, and participants will be randomly selected, emphasizing the urgency for those seeking financial assistance.

Body Cameras Introduced at Harris County Jail Amid Safety Concerns
