The Biden-Harris Administration granted $4.9 billion in student loan debt reduction for 73,600 borrowers, a major step toward helping students. This is part of the Administration’s attempts to fix income-driven repayment (IDR) forgiveness and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) issues.
The news shows the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to comprehensive IDR forgiveness and PSLF program reforms, bringing the total loan forgiveness granted to $136.6 billion.
Over 3.7 million Americans have benefited from this enormous relief, removing the difficulties and restrictions that prevented borrowers from receiving debt forgiveness.

Addressing Concerns and Improving PSLF Programs
Forbearance abuse by loan servicers was addressed by administrative modifications to IDR payment counts for 29,700 debtors in the Bidens Student Loan Application $4.9 billion debt reduction. The Administration has also provided $3.2 billion for 43,900 borrowers via PSLF program upgrades, demonstrating its commitment to refining and extending student debt forgiveness programs.
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona emphasized the Administration’s commitment to fixing the student loan system and voiced confidence for more debt reduction under the SAVE Plan. Borrowers should expect faster financial independence as the Department of Education expedites debt forgiveness via SAVE.
