California Residents to Receive Up to $1,751 in December SNAP Payments Within Six Days

California, December 5, 2023

SNAP, California’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is in full swing in December and will be done giving out benefits in six days. Starting on the first of the month, the SNAP program started sending out payments. This will continue until the 10th. Participants, mostly low-income families, get funds based on their case numbers.

The plan for payments is very well organized. For example, people whose case numbers end in 1 will get their CalFresh benefits on December 1, and the order will progressively move forward every day. Final payouts will be made on December 10 to people whose case numbers end in 0.

Different factors, such as family size, income limits, and other assets, affect the exact amount of benefits each household gets. Interestingly, the biggest payment is $291 for a household with one person, $973 for a family of four, and a huge $1,751 for a household with eight people. The household’s food stamp amount goes up by $219 for every new person living there after eight.

A monthly electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card is automatically loaded with SNAP benefits. Buyers can use this card at grocery shops to get certain foods, like fruits, veggies, bread, meat, poultry, and drinks. Some things, like pet food, booze, and household items like paper and soap, are not allowed to be bought with SNAP funds.

According to figures from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, about 13% of California’s population, or about 5 million people, access CalFresh.

Visitors to California’s government site run by the California Department of Social Services can get to SNAP benefits, learn about how to apply, or keep track of CalFresh benefits. Meanwhile, people in the state are eagerly anticipating their December SNAP payments. The program is still very important for helping people in need during the holidays.
