The MoneyGram refund is a result of the Department of Justice finding out that the MoneyGram failed to put an end to the scams after a class-action lawsuit in 2018. The lawsuit claimed that the MoneyGram violated previous orders that required them to diminish the number of scammers in their payment system.According to Burbrink, the MoneyGram refund will compensate the victims of the full amount of their losses. Almost 39,000 victims will be part of the refund and more than a $115 million total will be distributed to them. Nonetheless, the MoneyGram states that the number of fraud complaints they receive has steadily decreased in the past eight years. In 2022, only 0.009% of more than 100 million money transfers processed by MoneyGram were reported to be fraudulent.
