The Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the annual inflation rate at the end of December 2022 was at 6.5%. In comparison to November of the same year, the inflation rate dropped from 7.1%. Nonetheless, even as inflation has dwindled, many U.S. states decided to continue issuing relief checks this January. These relief checks can be stimulus checks or tax refunds to provide relief from the high costs of living, as reported by Siegel.

California
According to González, In California, the Middle Class Tax Refund continues to issue up to $1,050. The payments have begun to be issued in October 2022 but will continue until this month.
Colorado
In Colorado, the taxpayers requested for an extension to file their 2021 tax return. The deadline for the filing was due on October 17 last year. Fortunately, Colorado taxpayers will continue to receive up to $750 until the end of January this year.
Hawaii
In Hawaii, a tax refund of up to $300 can be received. Individuals who have earned no more than $100,000 and couples who have earned no more than $200,000 in 2021 can receive $300. On the other hand, individuals who have earned more than $100,000 and couples who have earned more than $200,000 can receive $100 only. The payments have begun to be issued in August 2022. However, taxpayers who have filed their 2021 tax returns between July 31 and December 31 last year will receive payments at a later date. After the tax returns are accepted, those who opt for direct deposits will receive their payments 10 weeks after. On the other hand, those who opted for paper checks will receive them 12 weeks after.
Idaho
In Idaho, Governor Brad Little has authorized tax refunds worth $600. The payments have begun to be issued in September 2022 but will continue until this month.
Massachusetts
In Massachusetts, the tax refunds were 14% of a taxpayer’s tax liability. The refunds began to be issued in November 2022. Those who have filed their 2021 tax return before October 17, 2022 have already received their refund in December. However, those who will file until September 15 this year will receive their refunds a month after.
New Mexico
In New Mexico, individual filers can still receive tax refunds worth $500. On the other hand, joint filers will receive $1,000. The residents have only until May 2023 to file their 2021 income tax return and be eligible to claim the tax refunds, as reported by González.
