A Southwest Journal blog post has analyzed Arkansas crime rate in its 10 cities. A city’s history, demographics, and initiatives to control crime were shortly discussed.
Terrible Arkansas Crime
Most often, Arkansas is seen as lacking in safety. According to Southwest Journal, it holds the highest crime rates in the country when it comes to violent crime. Arkansas’ highest violent crime rate is 7.1 per 1000 people and it increased by about 6% every year. It also holds the fifth highest property crime rate, 26.5 per 1000 people, which also has a 1% annual increase.
Mentioned in the blog post, the case of three teenagers from West Memphis in 1993 is the most terrible crime recorded. The three teenagers named Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr., and Jason Baldwin were convicted for murder that allegedly involved satanic rituals. They spent 18 years in prison.

Residents Of Arkansas Protect Themselves And Their Properties
Arkansas is working hard to battle crime and strengthen their safety and quality of life. Some of its initiatives are community policing, crime prevention programs and increased police presence. Almost half of its residents are using personal protection with pocketknives as the most common. Most Arkansans have installed security cameras, have firearms and guard dogs.
On the other hand, when it comes to natural disasters, Southwest journal has reported that Arkansans were less prepared than the average American. More than one-third have a family emergency plan and emergency kit. However, the remaining one-third have not prepared actions if a disaster happens.
