He just talked privately to The New York Times about his specific steps.

Matt has his routine down to a science after years of thrifting, and it works around his normal nine-to-five job as a graphic designer.

On Saturdays and Sundays, he visits thrift stores in Seattle, Washington, at 9 a.m., when they first open. He usually shops at six or seven different places, ranging from Goodwill to Crossroads to local organizations.

Matt focuses on men’s streetwear, designer brands, and vintage graphic T-shirts because that is what he is most familiar with. He also believes that sportswear and activewear are solid sales, especially if they come from a well-known brand such as Nike or Lululemon.

While shopping, Matt searches eBay for similar things that have just sold.

2. VIEWING MOVIES: $2,500
