TrueCrimeDaily reports A 65-year-old mother and her 40-year-old daughter were arrested for taking money from a family member who needed help. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office found out about the problem on April 8. The family member, who has a serious disease and can’t think clearly, didn’t know what was happening. The police looked into the situation and found out that the mother, Sally Houser, had taken a lot of money from the family member’s bank account. She made the family members sign papers, even though she knew they couldn’t make good decisions. The family member’s daughter, Stephanie Evans, also got involved and took some of the money. They both used the money for their benefit.
Exploitation of Vulnerable Family Member Leads to Mother-Daughter Duo: A Cautionary Tale of Financial Abuse
The police arrested Sally Houser and Stephanie Evans on May 21 and took them to jail. They had to pay $20,000 each to get out of jail. The sheriff was very upset about what happened and said, “This family member needs help because they have a serious condition. Instead of helping them, Sally Houser and Stephanie Evans took advantage of them.” This case shows how important it is to protect people who need help and make sure they are treated with kindness and respect.
