The complaint claims 38-year-old McClure was driving home from work early with a headache and dizziness. After witnessing irregular driving, Trooper Barnes tried to pull her over, but McClure, battling with her symptoms, ignored the flashing lights and siren.
After hitting a traffic roundabout, McClure’s automobile stopped, worsening the situation. Trooper Barnes demands McClure’s compliance with his revolver drawn, according to dashcam footage. McClure was detained and charged with dodging police despite her apparent discomfort and uncertainty.
A succession of frightening mistakes followed. Trooper Barnes questioned McClure about drug and alcohol usage despite her assertions of innocence, ignoring her critical medical requirements. McClure, who had a frontal-lobe subdural hematoma after a serious traumatic brain injury, needed prompt medical intervention.

McClure’s Desperate Wait for Medical Care
Unfortunately, McClure was held in Thurston County Jail for about 24 hours without medical attention. Jail personnel mocked and shocked McClure, aggravating her plight.
McClure received medical attention after hours of anguish. She needed immediate brain surgery for skull pressure. After 17 days in the hospital, McClure’s condition and irresponsibility were revealed.
The February 1, 2024 complaint alleges McClure’s egregious maltreatment and rights violations. Washington State Patrol and Thurston County Corrections Facility remain silent, but the issue has far-reaching implications.
Nicole McClure’s tragedy stresses people-firstness. Such serious judgment and compassion flaws are intolerable in a society that protects and serves its citizens. As for judicial proceedings, one can only hope for justice and preventative measures to avert catastrophes.
