Resignation Shrouded in Mystery: A Surprise Exit from Key Role

According to source, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison, a former NYPD chief of department, unexpectedly announced his resignation after nearly two years in the position. In a memo obtained by The Post, the Suffolk County Police Commissioner expressed his gratitude and admiration for the department, referring to his tenure as a privilege and one of the highlights of his law enforcement career.

While it remains unclear what the Suffolk County Police Commissioner’s next move will be and when the Suffolk County Police Commissioner’s last day will occur, his departure comes as a surprise to the department.

The Suffolk County Police Commissioner assumed his role in January 2022 with a commitment to solving the infamous Gilgo Beach serial killings case, which had remained unsolved for over a decade.

Cracking Cold Cases: A Major Breakthrough in Serial Killings Investigation

The Suffolk County Police Commissioner established a special joint task force dedicated to cold case killings leading to the arrest of Rex Heuermann in July, who was charged with the murders of three women related to the case. Heuermann has pleaded not guilty and is also considered a prime suspect in at least one more victim’s killing.

After leaving his position as chief of the department at the NYPD Harrison took on the role of Suffolk County Police Commissioner. In the Suffolk County Police Commissioner’s departure statement he praised the efforts of the Suffolk County department and expressed confidence that the county is in good hands. Suffolk County police declined to comment on the reasons for the Suffolk County Police Commissioner’s resignation.
