This time, the tumult in the soccer world is unrelated to a contentious penalty or the regular on-field antics. Formerly the pride of organizations like Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona, and AC Milan, Ronaldinho now finds himself in the middle of a controversy rife with accusations, missing deadlines, and crypto-related conspiracies.

Congress’s unreported hearings

It seems that scandal can affect even Brazil, the country with the golden foot. Ronaldinho has been engaged in a risky game of dodgeball with the Brazilian Congress while under investigation for an alleged pyramid scheme connected to one of his businesses.

In an article from Cryptopolitan, the soccer guru refused two requests to appear in court and gave a shady explanation: bad weather. Nevertheless, skepticism was evident throughout the legislative chambers.

How many opportunities does he still have? On August 31, Congressman Aureo Ribeiro makes the implication that Ronaldinho may have one final opportunity. However, if he chooses to skip another meeting, police enforcement may arrive at his door the following time to make sure he appears before the congressional committee.

When it comes to people who have been summoned by Congress, Brazilian law is uncompromising. Simple: they have to show up. And for those considering disobeying this, there is a tidy package of fines and a police escort ready to take them directly to the hearing they were attempting to avoid.

’18kRonaldinho’s’ mysterious universe

In a report from Sports Brief, it stated that you may now be asking why there is such a fuss. What could entangle a legendary soccer player in such a muck? The ’18kRonaldinho’ project is where the problem began. This business allegedly offered investors in cryptocurrencies daily profits surpassing 2%.

However, the dream was dashed when it appeared that the business had broken its word. The consequences were catastrophic; a massive lawsuit seeking damages in excess of $61 million was filed.

Even more damning, this complaint has grown and developed into a key piece of a bigger investigation into the shadowy world of crypto fraud in Brazil.

Defenders of Ronaldinho are quick to remove the superstar from the company’s fundamental functions. They portray him as the unknowing pawn who was used as the brand’s “face” and whose name and appearance were changed without his or her permission.

It’s interesting to note that this is not Ronaldinho’s first foray into cryptocurrency. He entered the fast expanding nonfungible token (NFT) market last year in a joint venture with INFLUXO and unveiled a line of his own tokens.

However, as this crypto storm intensifies, a specter from the past also rears its head. If you think back to the year 2020, you might remember another scandal that involved Roberto de Assis and Ronaldinho.

Their offense? They were sentenced to a rigorous 170 days in a Paraguayan prison for possessing fake passports. Assis’s name is also prominently displayed throughout the ongoing bitcoin inquiry, further complicating matters.

More information, more drama, and hopefully more clarification regarding the degree of Ronaldinho’s involvement are promised for the days to come. Is their soccer hero genuinely a victim, or is there a darker side to this once-adored icon? This is the question that nags at supporters everywhere. Only time will tell, and possibly a long-awaited congressional hearing.
