Authorities busted the multimillionaire’s escape plan from Florida jail in an attempt to avoid his charges.
The Multimillionaire’s Escape Plan
Authorities say they’ve busted the elderly multimillionaire’s escape plan from Florida jail and fly to France. The multimillionaire businessman had previously fled in an attempt to avoid child pornography charges.
Authorities received a tip from outside the Florida jail and this sparked an investigation inside the jail which lasted for two months, CBS News reported.
According to Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers, the multimillionaire, John Manchec, 78 years old, was investigated including the people he had enlisted in his escape plan. Manchec is a multimillionaire with dual U.S. and French citizenship.
Sheriff Flowers said the multimillionaire’s escape plan involves folks that are on the outside who will be waiting until Manchec will be visited by his doctor. When his doctor comes, they are going to take out corrections staff while the multimillionaire is out at the medical facility.
The multimillionaire’s employees will use pepper spray to escape from the prison guards, and Manchec will be taken to his private plane waiting nearby in Fort Pierce. He will then be taken to France.
The multimillionaire’s escape plan was centered on an April 12 medical appointment. But unfortunately, one of the people involved in his escape plan tipped off law enforcement, letting investigators discover the escape plot.
Authorities made an examination of Manchec’s jail phone records. They discovered that it was in the multimillionaire’s escape plan to use the code word “paint job” while talking with his employees about the escape plot.
Included in the multimillionaire’s escape plan is the purchase of other vehicles just for the escape attempt. Some people were to prepare his plane, his 140-foot yacht, a black utility van, and other vehicles.
Manchec even paid the bail for a cellmate and allowed them to live in his home. The cellmate helped prepare for the multimillionaire’s escape plan and packed his suitcase and his favorite liquor. Flowers said that if the multimillionaire’s escape plan succeeds, he will go “back to his castle in France” and will never have to face his charges.

Multimillionaire Faces Charges
The Multimillionaire Manchec was originally arrested in December 2014 after a child pornography investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He was arrested on 49 child pornography charges.
Flowers said the multimillionaire left the country to avoid prosecution and charges after posting a nearly $500,000 bond. He went and transferred to his medieval mansion in southern France, the Chateau Pechrigal.
France denied the U.S. attempts to extradite him, but he was finally arrested in the Dominican Republic in the year 2020. He went back to Florida, according to the sheriff.
In January, Manchec requested consent to leave jail, reasoning he suffered from chronic medical conditions because he broke his hip and wrist late last year, but his request was not accepted.
Manchec remains in the Indian River County Jail, facing additional charges related to the escape, including two inmates and two employees. They were arrested and charged with conspiracy in the multimillionaire’s escape plan.
