The Kansas City Police Department has identified the victims of a double homicide that occurred on Monday, December 9. The shooting, which took place in the 6000 block of Blue Hills Road, was reported around 3:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers were directed by witnesses to a car parked at the Charter Landing apartment complex. There, they discovered two victims— a 17-year-old female and a 19-year-old male— both suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were later identified as Cierra Pennington, 17, and Deontae Marchbanks, 19.
In an interview with KCTV5, several residents of the apartment complex expressed frustration over ongoing safety concerns in the area. Deborah Hall, a nearby resident, shared that her home was struck by stray gunfire. “That was a very nice complex across the street and now it’s been treated like we don’t care about the people that live there,” she said.
Kansas City police confirmed that the apartment complex had received 49 service calls this year. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female victim was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
