Tragedy Strikes Macy’s: Security Guard Killed, Another Injured in Philadelphia Stabbing, Police Investigate

According to authorities, the incident started when a man attempted to steal headwear from Macy’s.

Authorities claimed that a stabbing attack at a Macy’s department store in Philadelphia on Monday morning resulted in the death of one security guard and the injury of another.

This happened around 10:45 a.m. Philadelphia police claimed at a press conference that a guy attempted to take hats from Macy’s in Center City. The man was stopped by security, and following a “confrontation,” according to the police, the security guard “backs off, gets the merchandise back, and allows the male to go on.”

The suspect returned to the scene around fifteen minutes later, according to the police, and used a knife to attack two security personnel.

The 30-year-old security guard was stabbed in the neck and passed away at the hospital at 11:19 a.m., according to the police, who described the incident as a “tragic situation.”

According to authorities, the second guard, a 23-year-old man, was stabbed in the face and arm and was admitted to the hospital with a stable condition.

According to authorities, the suspect left the Macy’s and used public transportation before being captured around midday. His identity remains undisclosed.

According to the authorities, the security personnel were unarmed.

Tragedy Strikes NYC: Four Fatally Stabbed, Two Officers Injured in Knife Attack, Police Launch Investigation

Early on Sunday morning, at least four people—two of whom were eleven and twelve years old—were fatally stabbed in a New York City home. The suspect, according to the authorities, went on what they describe as a “rampage,” allegedly setting fire to the couch and slitting two police officers with a kitchen knife before being shot and killed.

The New York Police Department said that the stabbing spree began early on Sunday in Queensborough’s Far Rockaway area. According to investigators, the alleged offender attacked two veteran police officers who were responding to a disturbance in the driveway of the property. The officers saw the suspect taking baggage from the residence.

Police identified the culprit as 38-year-old Courtney Gordon. According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, Gordon had been arrested once before for strangulation domestic abuse in the Bronx borough of New York City.

The violence on Sunday started just after five in the morning, according to NYPD Chief of Department Jeff Maddrey, who described it as a domestic violence incident. The young woman who called 911 claimed that “her cousin is killing her family members.”

According to Maddrey, two patrol officers—one with 28 years of NYPD experience and the other with 16—were the first to arrive at the scene on Beach 22nd Street and noticed a man carrying luggage in the driveway of the house.

The man, later named Gordon, nodded as the officers started questioning him, and he proceeded to assault them with what Maddrey called a “typical kitchen knife.”

According to Maddrey, one cop suffered cuts to his neck and chest, while the other sustained cuts to his head. According to Maddrey, one of the officers—a 28-year department veteran—managed to draw his gun and shot the attacker despite being hurt, putting an end to the incident.

According to Maddrey, the two injured cops—whose identities remained undisclosed—were brought to Jamaica Hospital in Queens where they received non-life-threatening medical attention.

The NYPD reported that both cops were discharged from the hospital on Sunday night. In an online video released by the New York Police Department, a 28-year-old veteran officer was seen leaving Jamaica Hospital in a wheelchair and giving a thumbs up and wave to his fellow officers.

According to the department chief, an 11-year-old girl who had been stabbed outside the front door of the house was discovered by other responding cops. After being brought to a hospital, the girl was declared dead, according to Maddrey.

He stated there was a fire in the living room, which prevented authorities from entering the residence right away.

“It seems that he [the suspect] lit the couch at the front of the location on fire as he was leaving,” said Maddrey.

According to authorities, the New York City Fire Department arrived on the site and put out the fire. Three people, including a 12-year-old kid, were found fatally stabbed in two of the back bedrooms of the house when the police broke down the door, according to Maddrey. Additionally, a 61-year-old lady was discovered inside the home stabbed; she was rushed in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital in Queens, according to Maddrey.

According to Maddrey, two other people who died in the incident were a male in his 30s and a lady 44 years old.

The police were holding the victims’ names until their relatives could be notified. According to Maddrey, the police think Gordon and the victims are related.

Gordon, according to Maddrey, was visiting family in Queens when the outburst occurred. Gordon was a Bronx resident.

Investigating the attack’s motivation is still ongoing.

The president of the police union, Henry, commended the injured officers’ conduct and said that, in spite of his injuries, the veteran cop who shot the attacker to death had “unbelievable skill” in neutralizing the threat.

“Imagine what could have happened if these police officers weren’t there,” Henry said.
