49ers News: Less than a week until the 49ers play real football

Rookies vs. Rodgers? 49ers’ Malik Mustapha, Renardo Green have made bids for Week 1 roles (paywall)

“However, Green and Mustapha both had impressive training camps, and it’s possible both could make significant contributions as rookies, perhaps as soon as the regular-season opener against the visiting Jets on Monday.

“I feel like they are mature beyond their years,” Ward said. “I definitely feel like they’re pretty smart and confident in themselves. They believe in themselves. They can come in and contribute instantly, as we saw in the preseason.

“Everybody knows that Malik is going to smack somebody. He’s a hard hitter. And (Green), he can cover damn near every route in the route tree. He just needs to sharpen up a few things. But I think those guys will be great for us.”

Atypical Week 1 schedule could work in 49ers favor

“Most teams are getting a bonus practice Monday before resuming their normal week of practices Wednesday, taking Saturday off, then playing Sunday.

For the 49ers, they’ll be a day behind.

San Francisco has a bonus practice Tuesday, they’ll take Wednesday off, and then their normal week of practice starts Thursday. They’ll get Thursday, Friday and Saturday practices in before a day off Sunday.”

49ers place Pearsall on NFI list; rookie out at least four weeks

“The earliest Pearsall could possibly make his NFL debut would be Sunday, Oct. 6, against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium.”

49ers sign T Brandon Parker

“Parker signed with the 49ers in March and remained with the team through last week’s cutdown day, so he’s familiar with the offense should he be pressed into duty next Monday. Parker has 59 games of regular season experience, including five with the Raiders last season.

The Niners also signed defensive lineman Sam Okuayinonu to the practice squad and released offensive lineman Sebastian Gutierrez.”
