After the big fire at the Chemtool Manufacturing Plant in Rockton, Illinois in June 2021, people who own or rent property nearby might soon get money from a $94.5 million settlement. This agreement is from a class action lawsuit and aims to help those living within three miles of the plant when the fire happened. The fire on June 14, 2021, caused a lot of smoke, dust, and debris, leading to property damage, lower property values, and high cleanup costs.

Chemtool, which makes lubricants, grease, and fluids and is owned by Lubrizol Corp., agreed to the settlement without admitting any fault. To get money, people must have lived within three miles of the plant on the day of the fire. The settlement offers payments based on how close the claimant’s home is to the plant and whether they are renters or property owners. Important dates to remember are the objection deadline on August 13, 2024, the final approval hearing on September 27, 2024, and the claim form deadline on September 12, 2024. People need to show proof like utility bills, ID cards, or mortgage statements.
