Washington State Aims to Boost Tax Credit for Low-Income Families
Boosting Economic Equity: How Washington State’s Working Families Tax Credit is Making a Difference
According to WashingTonExaminer, The state of Washington is trying to make sure that half of the families who are eligible for a special tax credit get it by next year. This tax credit helps families who don’t have a lot of money. The governor, Jay Inslee, thinks this is a great way to be fair to everyone. Since this credit started in 2008, many families have gotten it and it has helped them.
This credit makes a big difference in people’s lives. Lori Pfingst, who works with the government, says that these kinds of credits help reduce poverty and make things more equal. Many people who don’t have a lot of money are working hard to support their families. During the pandemic, when many people were struggling, the government sent money directly to families and it helped 196,000 people in Washington State.
Low-Income Families: Advocating for Inclusive Access to Tax Credits
There is one problem with this credit: some Americans who need it can’t get it because of their immigration status. About 10% of the people who have gotten the credit don’t have a special Social Security number, but they do have another kind of ID number instead. Despite this challenge, the government is still trying to make sure that everyone who needs the credit can get it.
