Over 500 IDOT Workers Left Waiting for Promised Wage Increases Amid Dispute

IDOT Workers Left in Limbo as Union Demands Pay Raises

Workers at the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) are not getting the wage increases they were promised according to Teamsters Local 916. The union which represents over 500 IDOT employees says the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) is not paying the agreed-upon raises that were supposed to start on July 1. JP Fians III, the union president says CMS is misunderstanding the collective bargaining agreement and wrongly believes some workers make too much to qualify for the raises.

Fians is frustrated because the issues have not been resolved even though grievances were filed in April. Many union members are upset, and Fians believes things may not get better soon. He mentioned that workers might start organizing protected activities as a response to the problem.

Workers and Illinois Department Clash on Interpreting Contract Terms

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services says it is following the collective bargaining agreement and will address any issues through the grievance process. This response shows the ongoing disagreement between what the workers expect and how the department interprets the agreement, according to the report of Audacy.
