The gas tax in California is a big part of why gasoline costs so much. Right now, it costs an average of $4.79 per gallon across the whole state and $4.69 in Orange County. This tax increase is part of a plan to fix roads and make them safer.

California Gas Tax Hike: A Bitter Pill for Motorists
Even with this plan, California’s roads are still not very good. Only about 67% of the roads are in good shape. The latest tax increase has upset some people who think the government should do more to help make living in California less expensive. But this increase was supposed to happen because of a law that was passed before the current governor was in office. As California works to fix its roads, drivers will feel the effects of these taxes every time they fill up their gas tanks.
