In June, Congress faced historically low 16% approval ratings. Recently, the National Taxpayers’ Union (NTU) released its annual “Taxpayer Scores,” evaluating lawmakers based on fiscal voting records. The House of Representatives averaged a 43% score for fiscal responsibility in 2023, with House Republicans averaging 74% and House Democrats averaging 11%. Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky earned the highest score at 96%, receiving the NTU’s “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” along with 37 fellow Republicans. Conversely, Representative Bobby Scott of Virginia had the House’s lowest score at 5% highlighting differing fiscal policy priorities.

Key Republican leaders like House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith earned scores of 81% and 77%, respectively, recognized for their roles in fiscal oversight and tax policy. In contrast, Democratic leaders such as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi received scores of 10% and 11% revealing ideological divisions on federal spending and taxes, according to the report of Just The News.
