However as of June 15, 2024, only 4,323 individuals have enrolled well below the initial projections. This low enrollment has sparked widespread debate and criticism across Georgia. Advocates like Leah Chan from the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute argue that the program’s underperformance represents a missed opportunity to extend crucial healthcare coverage to a larger segment of the state’s population. They emphasize the urgent need for a more inclusive and efficient approach to healthcare access urging greater transparency and accountability in how the program is managed and evaluated.

Conversely voices such as Kyle Wingfield president of the Georgia Public Policy Foundation point to a complex web of factors contributing to the sluggish enrollment figures. These factors include bureaucratic challenges economic fluctuations affecting eligibility criteria and political tensions between Georgia’s state government and the Biden administration at the federal level. Wingfield suggests that the delays and uncertainties surrounding the program have hindered its effectiveness complicating efforts to reach and enroll eligible individuals effectively.
