Meijer Partners with Auburn University to Enhance SNAP Benefits in Ohio
According to WKBN27, during summer 2024 Ohio families receiving SNAP benefits will get extra help through the SUNbucks initiative. Each eligible child enrolled in SNAP will receive an additional $120 to help cover the gap left when school meals aren’t available over the summer break. Administered by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) this program will automatically add funds to existing Ohio Direction cards by July 31. The initiative aims to ensure families statewide have essential nutritional support during this time when children are not in school.
Meijer a leading grocery retailer has partnered with Auburn University’s Hunger Solutions Institute to extend further assistance to SNAP clients in Ohio. By reducing the price of 1% or fat-free milk by 40% Meijer aims to stretch SNAP dollars and make nutritious dairy products more affordable. This initiative complements Meijer’s existing efforts to support SNAP recipients including a 10% discount on qualifying produce purchases and free home delivery services. These measures not only enhance access to essential food items but also promote healthy eating habits among families facing financial constraints.
