Consumers in multiple states may receive money from a settlement over alleged chicken price-fixing by companies such as Tyson and Pilgrim’s Pride between 2009 and 2019.

Settlement Details and Eligibility for Consumers

Residents from 24 states have the opportunity to participate in a settlement related to allegations of chicken price-fixing. Companies such as Fieldale, George’s, Mar-Jac, Peco, Pilgrim’s Pride and Tyson are accused of conspiring to maintain high chicken prices from 2009 to 2019, allegedly violating antitrust laws. Some companies have settled without admitting guilt, while others, like Perdue, are challenging the accusations in court, as reported by The US Sun.

Consumers who purchased specific fresh or frozen chicken products during this period may be eligible for compensation. Eligible products include various chicken parts excluding items like halal, kosher, free-range, or organic chicken. Proof of purchase is not required for participation in the settlement.

Important Deadline Extension for Claim Filing

The deadline for submitting a claim has been pushed back to June 30. Class-action lawsuits of this nature enable consumers to collectively pursue compensation without needing to file individual lawsuits. Companies often opt to settle to circumvent legal expenses not withstanding any denial of misconduct. The specific payout consumers can expect remains undetermined, underscoring the importance of submitting a claim by the deadline to qualify.
