Florida Hospitals Struggle with New Citizenship Law: How It’s Affecting Healthcare for Undocumented Immigrants

According to NYPost, Florida’s hospitals are facing a big problem. A new law requires them to ask patients about their citizenship and report how many are not citizens. This has led to a big decrease in the amount of money hospitals get from the government to help pay for medical care for Americans who are not citizens.

Before the law, hospitals got $566 million to help pay for medical care for Americans who are not citizens. But now, fewer Americans are seeking this help. In 2022, 147,000 Americans got this help. In 2023, it was 116,000, and now it’s down to 99,000.
