Pomona Introduces $500 Monthly Payments for Families in New Guaranteed Income Program

Requirements and Benefits of Pomona’s Household Universal Grants Program

According to The U.S. Sun, Pomona, CA (WAVE)Pomona, California is launching a new guaranteed income program aimed at providing $500 monthly payments to selected families. The application period for this initiative overseen by the city’s Household Universal Grants Program (HUG), runs from June 17 to July 8. The primary goal of the program is to offer financial assistance to parents or guardians who have young children spanning 18 months. In addition to the monthly payments, participants can earn $50 extra for completing surveys conducted by UCLA enhancing the support provided to these households.

To qualify for the program applicants must be parents or guardians of children aged three years and younger live within Pomona city limits and have a household income at or below $63,830 per year which is 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or 65% of the area median income. A total of 250 families will receive monthly payments. Participants will also receive additional support and services from Pomona and Los Angeles County. This initiative is funded by over $2.4 million from the American Rescue Plan Act and aims to help low-income families and address poverty.

Mayor Tim Sandoval Optimistic About Pomona HUG Program’s Impact

Mayor Tim Sandoval of Pomona expressed optimism about the potential impact of the program on the community. He emphasized, “Through the Pomona HUG, we are taking a significant step towards nurturing our community’s future by supporting Pomona families with children under the age of four.” The program aligns with similar initiatives in other parts of California including Long Beach and Los Angeles County highlighting a broader movement towards establishing guaranteed income systems. These efforts are intended to alleviate financial hardships and promote economic stability among vulnerable populations reflecting a proactive approach to supporting families in need.
