Senator John Smith Introduces Bill to Protect Child Tax Credit for American Families
Safeguarding American Workers’ Benefits Act Aims to Save $24.5 Billion by Preventing Illegal Immigrants from Claiming Child Tax Credit
According to Washington Examiner, in a push to ensure the child tax credit supports American families Senator John Smith recently introduced the Safeguarding American Workers’ Benefits Act. This legislation aims to prevent illegal immigrants from claiming the credit ensuring it remains a benefit for American citizens and legal residents. The child tax credit established in 1997 has long been a cornerstone of Republican values promoting family support and economic empowerment. However, concerns have arisen about its misuse particularly as illegal immigration has surged under the Biden administration. An estimated 10 million Americans have crossed the southern border since President Biden took office with thousands more entering daily. This influx has put additional strain on the federal budget already burdened by rising national debt and inflation.
Starting in 2025 even folks without citizenship can get money from the government for their kids if the kids have Social Security numbers but some worry that folks who aren’t supposed to be here might use this to get help meant for American families. A survey found that 72% of folks think this is a bad idea showing that many want stricter rules. Senator Smith wants to change this by making sure that both the person paying taxes and their kids have real Social Security numbers so only folks legally living here can get the money. This could save taxpayers over $24.5 billion in the next 10 years. The goal is to stop folks who aren’t supposed to be here from getting these benefits making sure money is used the right way. A similar bill in the House called the Safeguarding American Workers’ Benefits Act is led by Representative Clay Higgins from Louisiana.

Senator Smith Advocates for Reserving Child Tax Credit for American Citizens in Safeguarding American Workers’ Benefits Act
Furthermore, senator Smith emphasizes that the bill is not about denying help to those in need but about reserving taxpayer-funded benefits for American citizens who contribute to society. He argues that this straightforward solution will restore accountability and ensure the child tax credit fulfills its original purpose: assisting American families in raising the next generation. In conclusion the Safeguarding American Workers’ Benefits Act represents a significant effort to protect the integrity of the child tax credit and ensure it remains a vital support for American families amidst growing economic challenges.
