Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Louisiana rose last week compared to the previous week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. New jobless claims increased to 1,713 in the week ending May 11, up from 1,360 the week before.

Nationally, unemployment claims dropped to 222,000 last week, down 10,000 from 232,000 the previous week showing a positive trend with fewer Americans filing for benefits.
