Governor Newsom made the announcement at a new facility in San Mateo County, emphasizing the urgent need for more such centers across the state.

Proposition 1 requires support from county mental health departments for construction projects and a commitment to serving patients with Medi-Cal and private insurance.

Applicants must also provide matching funds or collateral, fostering shared responsibility among stakeholders.

Officials anticipate a rapid review process for grant applications with approvals expected within three months. Plans are in place to support permanent housing units further strengthening California’s mental health infrastructure.
