Department of Social Services Ordered to Overhaul Application Process for Equitable Access to Food Help

According to Kansas City, a recent court decision showed that many Americans in Missouri are struggling to get help with food. The court said the state’s Department of Social Services wasn’t treating Americans fairly. They were making it hard for Americans to apply for food help because of long wait times and calls being cut off. This was especially tough for Americans with prepaid phones.

Now, the Department of Social Services has to make big changes. They have to figure out how to make it easier for everyone to get food help. They have to do this in 30 days. And in 90 days, they have to make a plan for how they’ll do it. They also have to tell the court and other government offices how long Americans are waiting on the phone and if anyone gets turned down for not scheduling an interview.
